y x + 3
El área es base por altura:
A ( x , y ) = y ( x + 3 ) A(x,y) = y(x+3) A ( x , y ) = y ( x + 3 )
Como es de dos variables y conocemos el perímetro, planteamos la ecuación que las relaciona y despejamos y y y :
2 y + 2 ( x + 3 ) = 20 2 y + 2 x + 6 = 20 2 y = 14 − 2 x y = 14 − 2 x 2 y = 7 − x \begin{aligned}
2y + 2(x+3) &= 20 \\
2y + 2x + 6 &= 20 \\
2y &= 14 - 2x \\
y &= \frac{14-2x}{2} \\
\mathbf{y} &= \mathbf{7 - x}
\end{aligned} 2 y + 2 ( x + 3 ) 2 y + 2 x + 6 2 y y y = 20 = 20 = 14 − 2 x = 2 14 − 2 x = 7 − x
Sustituimos y y y y obtenemos un área que sólo depende de x x x :
A ( x ) = ( 7 − x ) ( x + 3 ) A ( x ) = 7 x + 21 − x 2 − 3 x A ( x ) = − x 2 + 4 x + 21 \begin{aligned}
A(x) &= (7-x)(x+3) \\
A(x) &= 7x + 21 - x^2 - 3x \\
\mathbf{A(x)} &= \mathbf{-x^2 + 4x + 21}
\end{aligned} A ( x ) A ( x ) A ( x ) = ( 7 − x ) ( x + 3 ) = 7 x + 21 − x 2 − 3 x = − x 2 + 4x + 21
Primera derivada igualada a cero:
A ′ ( x ) = − 2 x + 4 − 2 x + 4 = 0 x = − 4 − 2 = 2 punto cr ı ˊ tico \begin{aligned}
A'(x) &= -2x + 4 \\
-2x + 4 &= 0 \\
x &= \frac{-4}{-2} = \mathbf{2} \quad \text{punto crítico}
\end{aligned} A ′ ( x ) − 2 x + 4 x = − 2 x + 4 = 0 = − 2 − 4 = 2 punto cr ı ˊ tico
La segunda derivada es A ′ ′ ( x ) = − 2 A''(x) = -2 A ′′ ( x ) = − 2 , negativa para cualquier x x x : cóncava hacia abajo (∩ \cap ∩ ), así que en x = 2 x = 2 x = 2 hay un máximo. Evaluamos:
A ( 2 ) = − ( 2 ) 2 + 4 ( 2 ) + 21 = − 4 + 8 + 21 A ( 2 ) = 25 \begin{aligned}
A(2) &= -(2)^2 + 4(2) + 21 \\
&= -4 + 8 + 21 \\
\mathbf{A(2)} &= \mathbf{25}
\end{aligned} A ( 2 ) A ( 2 ) = − ( 2 ) 2 + 4 ( 2 ) + 21 = − 4 + 8 + 21 = 25
